The Spatial Characteristics and the Role of Linear Parks for Urban Revitialization

The purpose of this paper is to find out the structural characteristics and types of linear parks for continuous space experience and connection with urban spaces in new cities and old cities, and to contribute to urban regeneration, development, and urban vitality.
Linear parks are an important position in the equity and equality of urban residents' access to parks as the demand for living space parks that can be used on a daily basis increases.
Recently, the three-dimensional use of road and rail facilities is being actively considered as a solution to the problems caused by urban widenning and expansion, and linear park development projects using transportation infrastructure are also underway in major cities around the world as an alternative to changes in transportation means and decline in the old city center. Linear parks can be directly linked to urban spaces in a wider area than urban parks of the same area due to their narrow and long morphological characteristics, and they have excellent accessibility according to structural characteristics. Therefore, it is used not only as a leisure function of urban parks but also as a daily movement connection for local residents, and provides commercial facilities and rest areas along a long line of linear parks. This revitalizes the walking space, activates the connection with the surrounding space, and provides the pleasure of continuous walking leading to space and space. The linear park network organically connected to urban space will be an important factor in urban development and urban vitality.
The characteristics of linear parks can be summarized as follows.
First, connectivity. Connect and communicate disconnected spaces. Connect the park to the park and the spaces disconnected by road and rail.
Second, accessibility. Even linear parks of the same size have significantly higher accessibility than squares, rectangles.
Third, it is expandability. Linear parks contain external physical space expansion and social and cultural expandability.
In this way, linear parks contribute to urban revitalization by increasing the urban floating population, increasing commercial districts, and diversifying cultural contents due to the attraction effect.
